Sheffield will play host to one of the biggest and most varied outdoor pursuits events in the country this summer. Cliffhanger will feature:
- The British Bouldering Championships. Held on a free-standing, purpose-built ‘boulder’, it will be the first time a national climbing competition has been held outdoors in the UK. This British Mountaineering Council run competition will attract the best climbers the country has.
- The planetFear Ultra Sprint. This will be the most intense orienteering experience yet seen in the UK. Based on the Orient-Show concept developed in Russia and France the races will start and finish into an intricate 'labyrinth' in full view of the commentary team and spectators. Members of the public will also be able to take part on the course, kids enter free, £2 for adults.
- A Guinness World Dyno competition with £1,000 in prize money, open to all and free to enter – kind of like high jump for rock climbers!
- Three free Come And Try It rock climbing towers for all ages.
- Scuba Diving Pool – no experience required.
- A free film and lecture marquee featuring adrenaline films and celebrities spinning tales.
- Speleo-Olympics – a free caving obstacle course!
- Adrenaline style white knuckle rides.
- Free physiotherapy and sports massage.
- Free Peak District audio trail downloads (bring your MP3 players).
- Demonstrations: Mountain Rescue, Single Rope Technique, Parkour / Freerunning / Mountain Biking / Kayaking, Juggling, Kite Surfing, Slack Lining.
- Free cycle maintenance, bushcraft & guided walks.
- Goody Bags, freebies and a massive bargain area for all things outdoors. Please don’t rely on using plastic as it is an outdoor event!
- An Alpine Beer Festival, plenty of good quality, locally sourced food and drink, a picnic and an artists area, live music and a craft / farmers market.
10.30am to 6.30pm both days. Adults £5, accompanied kids free. Free programmes. Free car parks, entrances off Hemsworth Road / Cobnar Road and Charles Ashmore Road. More detail available at www.cliff-hanger.co.uk.
